Lee, was that Emerson's goal then?

That's what I thought at the time, that the ball must have come a from a defender obviously there was a replay but I missed it due to celebrating

Once they lobbed the Romanians out it there were a lot of empty seats in parts of 110/111. Well managed ticket policy that.

"I was there and glad that we won but Michail's goal, bit offside wasn't it?"

Don't you mean Emerson's goal?

I wondered how the hell we got away with it, as I thought it was blatantly offside. But when you look at the reply, the ball gets played in by a Steaua Bucuresti player.

Antonios goal (the 3rd) was fine
The second goal .... Antonio was 2yds offside but the ball came to him from a defender so he wasnt offside and Emerson's goal was ok

The middle part of the game became a contest to see how often they could throw themselves to the ground and waste time at restarts with the connivance of the referee.
Ironically once they went behind all that stopped and they played much better before we finished them off with the 3rd goal

The East Europeans have also started using the “dark arts”. Always had them down as being above that. Nowadays referred to as “play acting” which is a softening of language as back in the days of us old gits it was called cheating and you’d get pummelled by your own team let alone the opposition for such antics.

It won’t change. Tolerated so that the South American, Mediterranean and other nations players can be more successful IMO. If you look at games in these regions going back 3 or 4 decades they were all doing the theatrics then. It’s apparently something they see as being clever and artful part of the game.

Bit like corruption as we see it being just part of business in many cultures.

Same actually! I had flashbacks to Forest with the penalty. Luckily it was a good un. It seemed to release untold tension in our players and we could have had 5-6 after that, in truth.

Can't have been an easy night to be playing a match you're expected to win comfortably

I thought that was going to be one of THOSE nights.

We looked toothless, they sneaked the lead, then the diving, play acting and trying to get players booked started. The ref. joined in on their side, and at 65 minutes I thought we had a real chance of losing that game and I was going to have to take the dog out again.

BTW, I agree with you, t'was a soft one but I'll take it.

Agree- he was very weak and fell for their tactics which led them to really trying it on every time we went near them. First half was a total mess.

I do wonder if there was some sort of assessment or chat at half time amongst the officials as he did seem to act with a lot more wisdom with their antics second half.

that right side midfielder Cordea had the referee on a string with his constant diving

I thought the ref was rubbish last night, until just before half time Kehrer was fouled after their continued rough tactics and I felt he milked the reaction as though he had a bad back/neck injury.

After that, I thought the ref was a lot better.

Possibly. I'm certainly not complaining but I do think it was a soft one unless there's a more damning angle than I've seen. However their goalkeeper pulling a Mendy in the aftermath, following all their diving and playacting to try and get half our team sent off left me bereft of any sort of sympathy for them.

I would have been furious if that pen was awarded against us though, and I do think VAR would have overturned it, but as mentioned I am absolutely not complaining!

Return fixture in Bucharest is going to be fucking spicy, I think, seen as they seem to feel extremely hard done by and the ref was biased.

Thought the referee was ok for about 20 mins then had a brain fade and started giving free kicks every time they fell over which they rightly played on.
Allowed all sorts of playacting and timewasting and forgot that 'injured' players that had had treatment have to leave the pitch.
Hopefully we are going to be ALLOWED to win this competition and wont get refs like last seasons convicted match fixer again

The first error the keeper made was jumping and trying to catch the ball at his waist height. That left him jumping with his knees straight into the back of Cornet. His second error was not catching the ball because he wasn't close enough to it, because Cornet's positioning was better.

Foul all day long.

I thought we were worse first ten minutes of second half, but then there were so many stoppages due to their shit rolling around.

Does anyone have any links to full game or even just goals, can't find anything.

Benrahma is frustrating and he had a bad half but it didn’t help that he was playing on the right.
